Al-Fatihah الفاتحة
Makki · 7 ayat · 7 with pondering
- Ayah 1Every beginning has a first line, and this one puts His name at the top; the first thing that name says is mercy.
- Ayah 2Before you ask Him for anything, you are taught to say what was always true: every praise, and every thanks, already belongs to Him.
- Ayah 3Between the Lord of every world and the Master of the Day, He names Himself by mercy twice; small power has no excuse for harshness.
- Ayah 4Every crown you have seen is on loan; this ayah names the Day it is handed back to a King whose kingdom is mercy.
- Ayah 5You alone we worship: not a timetable of rituals but a whole life, turned towards the One who needs none of it.
- Ayah 6Already on the road, you still ask to be led and kept on it: the next step is always one you have never taken.
- Ayah 7The road is known by those who walked it, and lost in only two ways: knowing and not living, or never truly asking.
