- Ayah 1The Lord of all things opens a surah by swearing on a fig and an olive, and the humblest things on your table become witnesses.
- Ayah 2The second oath climbs a green mountain where Mūsā was called by his Lord from beside a tree: a place made great by a conversation.
- Ayah 3After far-off places, the oath points to the ground under the first hearers' feet: this city, kept secure, and keeping safe whoever enters it.
- Ayah 4Every oath was leading here: the human being, set upright among creatures that face the ground, shaped by Another in the finest form there is.
- Ayah 5The One who set you upright can turn you back down: every strength you boast of is on loan, and its use decides your end.
- Ayah 6One door out of the fall: faith that rests its weight on Allah, and deeds that keep going, with a reward that outlasts our strength.
- Ayah 7The surah turns to face you: after the arc of your own life, from finest form to frailty, what still makes you deny the reckoning?
- Ayah 8The surah ends with a question that has only one honest answer: is not Allah the wisest and most just of all who judge?
