Ash-Shu'ara · Makki · ayah 162 of 227
Ash-Shu'ara 26:162
إِنِّى لَكُمْ رَسُولٌ أَمِينٌ
“Indeed, I am to you a trustworthy messenger.”
Saheeh International
Essence
Lut tells a town that would later mock his household for its purity that he is a messenger they can trust.
A reflection
They never called him dishonest
This sentence is first met at 26:107, where its full treatment lives. There the words rasūl, sent, and amīn, trustworthy, are opened up. Here it is enough to notice how Lut's people answered it.
They did not say he was a liar about money. They did not say he had cheated anyone. Their complaint, recorded in other surahs, was the opposite. 'Expel them from your town; they are people who keep themselves pure' (7:82, 27:56).
That is a remarkable charge sheet. The worst thing they could find to say about Lut and his household was that they were clean. His claim to be amīn went unanswered, because there was nothing to answer it with.
When people who reject your values can only fault you for keeping them, your trustworthiness has already spoken.
