At-Taghabun التغابن
Madani · 18 ayat · 18 with pondering
- Ayah 1Everything that exists is already glorifying Allah, right now, and this time the praise comes paired with the throne, not stated alone.
- Ayah 2One creation produces two outcomes, believer and disbeliever, and the sentence closes not on which you are but on what Allah watches you do.
- Ayah 3The heavens and earth were made with purpose, not as a toy, and you were shaped twice over: formed, then given the best of that form, with a return ahead.
- Ayah 4He knows the heavens and the earth, then what you hide and what you show, then what sits in your chest before you've even named it to yourself.
- Ayah 5This news has already reached you: earlier people tasted the crushing weight of their own choice, and a further, painful reckoning still waits for them.
- Ayah 6Clear proof came to them through a messenger who shared their own nature, and the objection that undid them was never about the proof at all.
- Ayah 7They claimed, as if it were knowledge, that there would be no resurrection; the answer commanded in reply is a sworn, doubly emphatic yes.
- Ayah 8Believe in Allah, His messenger, and the light sent down to illuminate exactly what you cannot verify on your own, and know you are watched in fine detail.
- Ayah 9On the day everyone is gathered, the trade finally settles: some end up holding what others gave away, and that exchange is what names this whole surah.
- Ayah 10Those who disbelieved and called Our signs lies become, in a word the Quran reserves for close companionship, inseparable from the Fire they chose.
- Ayah 11No calamity moves without first being granted leave, and belief does not stop the calamity; it guides the heart to what to do once it has already arrived.
- Ayah 12Obey Allah, and separately obey the Messenger; if you still turn away after that, the only thing ever resting on him was delivering the message clearly.
- Ayah 13There is no god but Him, and precisely because of that, the believers are the ones told to place their whole reliance on Him alone.
- Ayah 14Some of the people you love most can quietly pull you from what matters most, and the ayah's answer to that is not suspicion of them but forgiveness.
- Ayah 15Wealth and children are exactly and only a test, neither pure blessing nor pure burden, and what waits with Allah for whoever is tested well is far greater.
- Ayah 16Fear Allah as far as your actual capacity reaches, not one standard impossibly stretched for everyone, and being protected from your own soul's grasping…
- Ayah 17Allah calls your charity a loan to Him, multiplies it, forgives you besides, and describes Himself, astonishingly, as the grateful one in the exchange.
- Ayah 18Four closing words, no verb at all: the One who knows everything hidden and shown is also mighty and wise enough to be trusted with it.
