Al-Anbya 21:10

لَقَدْ أَنزَلْنَآ إِلَيْكُمْ كِتَـٰبًا فِيهِ ذِكْرُكُمْ ۖ أَفَلَا تَعْقِلُونَ

“We have certainly sent down to you a Book [i.e., the Qur’ān] in which is your mention.[875] Then will you not reason?”

Essence

The Book they mocked held their own honour, their own story and their own reminder; the only question was whether they would use their minds.

A reflection

The honour you are looking for is in here

We have sent down to you a Book in which is your dhikr. An early reading, reported from a Companion, gives the word a surprising sense: your honour, your renown. Another commentator weighs the views and prefers this one. It is an honour, he says, for whoever follows it and acts by what is in it. A modern commentary adds: your dignity in this world and the next, if you take its reminder to heart.

That is a remarkable thing to say to people who had just called the Book a dream and a forgery. They thought it threatened their standing. The ayah tells them their standing is inside it.

Picture a nineteen-year-old who checks her follower count forty times a day. She is not shallow; she is hungry. She wants to matter, to be seen, to be someone people speak well of. Every app she opens promises that, and none of them delivers it for longer than an evening.

The Quran speaks to exactly that hunger, and it does not mock it. The wish to be honoured is not condemned here. It is redirected. The honour on offer is not the kind that disappears when the algorithm changes. It belongs to whoever lives by the Book, and it lasts into the next life.

Allah gains nothing from this. He is the Rich, and people are the ones in need (35:15). Whoever strives, strives for himself (29:6). The honour in the Book is for the reader, not for the Author. Muslim records the Prophet's ﷺ words that the Quran is a proof for you or against you. It is the same Book either way. What decides which it becomes is whether it is followed.

One commentator puts the whole matter in a sentence. The Book is an honour for the Prophet ﷺ because it is his miracle. It is an honour for us if we act on what is in it.
