As-Saffat 37:131

إِنَّا كَذَٰلِكَ نَجْزِى ٱلْمُحْسِنِينَ

“Indeed, We thus reward the doers of good.”

Saheeh International

Essence

Ilyas saw no rescue or victory in his story, yet the same sentence of reward is spoken over him as over Musa and Harun.

A reflection

The same sentence, without the victory

Compare the two stories that end with these identical words. For Musa and Harun, thus do We reward (37:121) comes after a long list. Rescue from great distress, help, victory over Pharaoh, a clear Book, guidance. For Ilyas, the list is short. He was a messenger. He called his people. They denied him. Then Allah left a good name upon him, and a greeting of peace.

No parted sea. No drowned tyrant. No people led out to freedom. And yet the closing sentence is exactly the same.

A narration-based commentary, on the line after Nuh, describes who it covers. They are those who do good, obey Allah, follow His command and endure harm for His sake. Nothing in that description depends on outcome. It depends on conduct.

That is a quiet correction to how we measure lives. We tend to assume that the faithful whose work visibly succeeded were rewarded more. The surah places a celebrated prophet of victory and a little-known prophet of rejection under one sentence. Allah's thus is not measured by what the crowd did. It is measured by what the servant did.
