Al-Hadid 57:9
“It is He who sends down upon His Servant [Muḥammad (ﷺ)] verses of clear evidence that He may bring you out from darknesses into the light. And indeed, Allāh is to you Kind and Merciful.”

Essence
He keeps sending clear signs to His servant to bring you out of every darkness into the one light, tenderly and mercifully.
A reflection
Named a servant at the highest moment
Huwa alladhī yunazzilu ʿalā ʿabdihi: He it is who sends down upon His servant. The ayah could have called the Prophet ﷺ many things at this point: the Messenger, the chosen one, the seal of the prophets. At the very moment it describes revelation coming down upon him, it calls him ʿabdihi, His servant.
The root of ʿabd has a striking first image. A road was called muʿabbad when many feet had trodden it level. It no longer resisted the traveller and became an easy way for others. A camel tamed for errands was muʿabbad. One commentator adds a second picture: a cloth of the densest, strongest weave. Servanthood in this sense is not frailty. It is humility at its furthest limit, which is why it is given to Allah alone. That reading is drawn from the commentaries rather than settled in the lexicons, so hold it as one view.
Picture a conductor at the end of a triumphant concert. The hall is on its feet. He bows once, then turns, picks up the score from the stand and lifts it above his head, pointing to the composer's name. Everything he did that evening was in service of that page. His greatness was precisely his faithfulness to it.
The One who sends down the ayat is the Majestic; the one who receives them is honoured by being His servant. This turns our ideas of status upside down. The ego wants titles that point to itself: founder, director, expert. The best of creation is introduced, at the summit of his calling, with a title that points away from himself.
There is freedom in this for anyone tired of pride. You do not need a grander name. The highest name available to a human being is the one the Prophet ﷺ carried here: servant of Allah. It is open to you today, and it asks only that you become a road others can walk on.
