As-Sajdah السجدة
Makki · 30 ayat · 30 with pondering
- Ayah 1Three letters open the surah chosen for Friday's dawn and the edge of sleep: a surah about lying down and rising up.
- Ayah 2Before a single instruction, the surah names whose words these are: a Book come down like a guest, from the Lord of all the worlds.
- Ayah 3Accused of forgery, the Book answers in one line, then names its purpose: a warner running in at dawn, hoping you will be saved.
- Ayah 4The One who made every sky and rose over the Throne stands nearer than any helper; besides Him, no one holds the door.
- Ayah 5He arranges every affair from its end, sends the command down, and draws the sincere deed up a stairway no counting of ours can measure.
- Ayah 6The One who directs it all sees what is hidden and what is plain, cannot be overpowered, and bends over His creation with womb-like mercy.
- Ayah 7Everything He made, He made well; and the human story began as clay, like the wet seal pressed onto a letter by its sender.
- Ayah 8Every lineage, however proud, was drawn out like a single hair from dough, from a water nobody counted as precious.
- Ayah 9Clay was shaped, then breathed into like embers blown to a glow; and only then did the Quran turn and speak to you.
- Ayah 10They asked how dust could live again; the ayah answers that the question was never about dust, but about not wanting to meet their Lord.
- Ayah 11You will not dissolve unnoticed into the earth: one angel is assigned to you, takes you in full, and you are returned to your Lord.
- Ayah 12The head that refused to bow will hang before its Lord, saying the right words too late; today they still work.
- Ayah 13He could have guided every soul by force; He chose a world of offered guidance, and Hell takes those who follow its caller.
- Ayah 14They did not lose the memory of the meeting; they stopped attending to it, and on the Day they are left as they left it.
- Ayah 15Belief shows itself as a reflex: reminded of Him, the body falls, the tongue praises, and the heart refuses to stand on its pride.
- Ayah 16While the town sleeps heavily, their sides will not settle: they call their Lord in fear and hope, and give from what He gave.
- Ayah 17What waits for those who rose in the dark is hidden even from angels and prophets: a delight for the eye that finally stops searching.
- Ayah 18A life held inside faith and a life that burst its skin do not weigh the same, here, at death, or after.
- Ayah 19Those who believed and repaired what they touched come home at nightfall to Gardens that are theirs, and find the welcome meal already laid.
- Ayah 20They made a refuge of what led to the Fire, and the Fire became their refuge: every reach for the door brings them back.
- Ayah 21The hardships of this life are a taste, measured and partial, sent ahead of the full portion while there is still time to turn back.
- Ayah 22No one wrongs himself more than the person who is reminded of his Lord's signs, sees them plainly, and then turns his shoulder.
- Ayah 23Mūsā was given a Book and met resistance; the Prophet ﷺ is told he walks the same road, and will meet him on it.
- Ayah 24Leadership that guides by Allah's command is not seized by talent; it is given to those who hold steady and are certain of His signs.
- Ayah 25Every dispute about faith that cannot be finished here will be settled by your Lord Himself, who parts truth from falsehood at the joint.
- Ayah 26The ruins on your road were homes once; whoever walks past them without hearing their warning has not yet understood the road.
- Ayah 27Water is herded to land stripped bare, and it feeds animals and people: the plainest yearly proof that what looks finished can live again.
- Ayah 28The deniers mock the day of decision by asking when; the Quran keeps their words, and teaches believers to hold a promise without a date.
- Ayah 29When the day of decision opens, faith that waited until it could see will no longer save, and no one will be given more time.
- Ayah 30With the case made, the Prophet ﷺ is told to turn from mockery and wait; both sides wait, but only one waits on a promise.
