Luqman 31:34

“Indeed, Allāh [alone] has knowledge of the Hour and sends down the rain and knows what is in the wombs.[1168] And no soul perceives what it will earn tomorrow, and no soul perceives in what land it will die. Indeed, Allāh is Knowing and Aware.”

Essence

Five things stay locked with Allah alone: the Hour, the rain, the womb, your tomorrow and your place of death; live well inside that not-knowing.

A reflection

Five doors, one Keeper

The Prophet ﷺ gave the contents of this ayah a name. 'The keys of the unseen are five,' he said, 'and none knows them but Allah' (Sahih al-Bukhari). Then he listed them: tomorrow, the womb, the rain, the land where a soul will die, and the Hour.

One report sets two messengers face to face. A man came walking up while the Prophet ﷺ sat among people, and asked about faith, Islam and excellence. Then he asked: when is the Hour? The answer came: the one asked knows no more about it than the one asking. It is among five things only Allah knows. Then he recited this ayah. When the man left, the Prophet ﷺ said: that was Jibrīl (Sahih al-Bukhari, Sahih Muslim). The noblest of angels and the noblest of men, side by side, and the Hour is known to neither.

The grammar of the opening tightens the lock. Inna Allāha ʿindahu: it is Allah, with Him it rests. One commentary notes that the word ʿind itself suggests something kept guarded, beyond anyone's reach.

Our age is proud of prediction. A technology conference opens with a keynote titled 'The End of Uncertainty'. Models forecast markets, elections and what you will buy next week. Some of it works, impressively. Yet no model can tell the speaker what she will earn tomorrow, or where she will die. The five keys are not exotic. They sit closest to every human life.

That is where the ego shrinks. Not before the stars, but before its own tomorrow. You cannot see one day ahead of yourself, and the One who sees everything has told you so plainly.

Is keeping these keys a display of power? The next reflection argues the opposite: that each locked door is a kindness.
