Fussilat 41:40
“Indeed, those who inject deviation into Our verses[1394] are not concealed from Us. So, is he who is cast into the Fire better or he who comes secure on the Day of Resurrection? Do whatever you will; indeed, He is Seeing of what you do.”

Essence
Those who bend His signs out of shape are not hidden from Him; do what you will is a warning, because He sees.
A reflection
The folded feathers are visible too
"They are not hidden from Us." The phrase sounds mild until you hear how a king uses it. One classical commentator makes the comparison. When a feared king says, those who contest my kingdom, I know them, nobody hears it as a simple report. It is a warning. Here the King is Allah, and the ones contesting Him are those who twist His signs.
The root of "hidden", kh-f-y, gives the first hearers some vivid pictures. The khawāfī were the small feathers behind a bird's main flight feathers, which vanish when the wing folds. A deep well whose water cannot be seen was khafiyya. So was the thicket where a lion lies out of sight. These are the most hidden things the desert knew. The ayah says that no one who bends the signs is hidden in that way from Allah.
The ego has a favourite assumption: my cleverness will go unnoticed. The slightly misleading quote, the conveniently trimmed fact, the argument shaped to sound fair while serving me. Pride believes that if other people cannot see the twist, nobody can.
Picture a man who runs a popular account under a false name. He posts sharp, half-true takes about religion to a large following. He enjoys the fact that no one knows who he is. Every evening he checks his numbers, and every evening he feels safe. Yet the one audience he forgot is the only one that cannot be fooled.
The ayah is not a threat for its own sake. It is a dose of reality for an inflated self. You are not as hidden as you think, and you are not as clever as you feel. Humility begins with accepting that the folded feathers are seen. Then the energy spent on hiding can be spent on putting things straight.
