Al-Haqqah 69:39

وَمَا لَا تُبْصِرُونَ

“And what you do not see”

Saheeh International

Essence

The same oath that called the visible world as witness now calls everything beyond human sight too, as if nothing anywhere is exempt from testifying.

A reflection

A witness list with no edges

Paired with the previous ayah's visible world, this half of the oath reaches for everything beyond it: the commentaries list angels, jinn, souls, the Hereafter, and whatever Allah has kept entirely to His own knowledge, offering several readings rather than settling on one and insisting the others are wrong. What they agree on is the shape of the whole: together, the two ayat leave no category of existence outside the oath at all, seen and unseen both called at once.

That totality is itself the argument. A court that calls only witnesses favourable to one side invites suspicion. A court that calls every witness without exception, visible and invisible, known and unknown, leaves no room to claim the evidence was selected to flatter a predetermined conclusion. This oath is built exactly that way: nothing is left out because nothing had anything to hide.

A person assembling a case for something they know to be true instinctively reaches for the strongest, most selective evidence available and leaves the rest aside. An oath built on everything that exists, without exception, is not selecting its strongest witnesses. It is declaring that every single witness, however small or however hidden, would say the same thing if it could speak.

That is a different kind of claim from an ordinary argument, and worth sitting with on its own terms. Most claims people make can survive a few exceptions, a witness here or there who might disagree. This oath is built to survive none, which is either an extraordinary overreach or an extraordinary confidence, and the commentaries read it plainly as the latter.
