Al-Anbya · Makki · ayah 82 of 112
Al-Anbya 21:82
“And of the devils [i.e., jinn] were those who dived for him and did work other than that. And We were of them a guardian.[898]”

Essence
Even rebellious jinn dived for pearls and built for a prophet, and Allah kept every one of them in check without tiring.
A reflection
The heaviest things to one, the lightest to the other
One great commentator, quoted by another, steps back from these ayat and notices a pattern. To Dawud, Allah subjected the densest things in creation: stone, which He made glorify, and iron, which He made soft. To Sulayman, He subjected the subtlest: the wind, and jinn made of fire who dived into water unharmed. Opposites from opposites. The commentator calls it a clear proof of Allah's dazzling power.
Then the ayah ends: wa kunnā lahum ḥāfiẓīn, and We were guarding them. One commentary explains: We kept count of their works and their numbers, and keeping all of it does not tire Us. Another: nothing of their numbers or their deeds escaped Us.
Picture a father of three on a Monday morning. One school app has sent four messages about a trip. Another wants a consent form. The football club has moved training. The middle child has no PE kit because it is still damp in the washing machine. He is a capable man who manages a team at work. He cannot keep track of three children and their week.
That is the size of our keeping. A few people, a few days ahead, and it still slips. The ayah describes jinn too many to count, diving in every sea and building in every city, each one known, each one held. Stone and iron, wind and fire, all of it answering to one Keeper who does not tire.
There is a quiet rebuke to the ego here, and a quiet comfort. The rebuke: our sense of being in control is mostly a story we tell ourselves. The comfort: the One who kept count of Sulayman's jinn is not going to lose track of your children. Does He need us to admire this? No. But we need to stop pretending we are the ones holding everything.
