Al-Hajj · Madani · ayah 64 of 78
Al-Hajj 22:64
“To Him belongs what is in the heavens and what is on the earth. And indeed, Allāh is the Free of need, the Praiseworthy.”

Essence
The rain and the green it wakes are His, like everything else; He gains nothing from giving them, which is exactly why He deserves praise.
A reflection
A Giver who takes nothing back
The same sentence closes 31:26, where the fuller entry on al-Ghanī and al-Ḥamīd sits. Here it arrives straight after rain falling and the earth turning green. That placement gives it a sharp point.
One classical commentator draws the line clearly. Allah needs nothing, not even the praise of those who praise Him. So when He sends rain and wakes the seeds, nothing comes back to Him from it. The gift is pure. And a gift with no gain hidden in it is exactly what deserves praise.
The ego finds this hard. Most of our giving carries a small invoice: thanks expected, a favour banked, a reputation polished. Here is giving with no invoice at all.
He does not tell us He is Rich because He needs us impressed. He tells us so we stop suspecting His gifts, and stop pricing our own.
