Ash-Shu'ara 26:125

إِنِّى لَكُمْ رَسُولٌ أَمِينٌ

“Indeed, I am to you a trustworthy messenger.”

Saheeh International

Essence

Hud tells ʿĀd what Nuh told his people: I am a messenger to you, and you already know I can be trusted.

A reflection

Trusted yesterday, accused today

This exact line was first met at 26:107, in Nuh's mouth, and its full treatment lives there. Here it is Hud's.

One early explanation, recorded by a commentator, gives amīn a sharp edge. Hud was trusted among them before his mission began. So the word carries a question: you trusted me yesterday, so how can you accuse me today?

The commentators read amīn in a second way too: faithful in delivering what Allah sent, adding nothing and keeping nothing back. Both readings hold together. A man known for honesty in small things brings a message he will not bend.

ʿĀd had to choose between their memory of Hud and their wish to be left alone. They chose to rewrite the memory.
