An-Naml 27:75

وَمَا مِنْ غَآئِبَةٍ فِى ٱلسَّمَآءِ وَٱلْأَرْضِ إِلَّا فِى كِتَـٰبٍ مُّبِينٍ

“And there is nothing concealed[1085] within the heaven and the earth except that it is in a clear Register.[1086]”

Saheeh International

Essence

Not even the most deeply hidden thing in heaven or earth is lost; each stands written in a record without a single blur.

A reflection

Nothing filed under 'lost'

Think about how much of your own life you have already lost track of. Try to find an email you sent last week. You remember writing it, but not the subject, nor quite who it went to. Five searches later, it is still nowhere. Multiply that by every name you have forgotten, every promise you cannot quite recall, every photo of a face you can no longer place.

Human memory leaks. Our archives rot, our drives fail, our records are rewritten by whoever holds them. We are, honestly, rather poor keepers even of our own affairs.

Now hear the ayah. There is nothing hidden, in the heavens or the earth, but it is in a clear Book. Not most things. Not the important things. Nothing at all is missing. Every grain under the sea floor, every thought in every chest, every leaf that falls at night with no one there to see it.

That should shrink our pride in a healthy way. We like to think of ourselves as the ones who know, the experts, the people who keep track. We are proud of our systems and our data. Before this ayah, the most complete archive on earth looks like a child's notebook left out in the rain.

There is a second humbling here, more personal. If nothing is lost to Him, then nothing about me is lost either. The careless word I have forgotten is not forgotten. The quiet good deed nobody noticed is not unnoticed. Arrogance depends on things slipping away unrecorded. This ayah closes that door, and in the same moment opens a door of hope.
