Al-Qasas 28:45
“But We produced [many] generations [after Moses], and prolonged was their duration.[1107] And you were not a resident among the people of Madyan, reciting to them Our verses, but We were senders [of this message].[1108]”

Essence
Generations rise and pass like cloud, and long years slacken every covenant; yet the One who raises them has never stopped sending.
A reflection
Generations raised like cloud on the horizon
Between Musa and Muhammad ﷺ lay many centuries. The ayah folds them into two words: anshaʾnā qurūnan, We raised up generations. Whole civilisations, languages, wars and dynasties, and the Speaker covers them in a phrase.
The verb carries a picture the first hearers knew well. Cloud nashaʾa when it came up over the horizon and showed itself. Allah anshaʾa it: He raised it. The same root names a boy who has grown to a man's height. Generations, in this word, are raised the way weather is raised.
Picture a weather radar loop of a whole country over one afternoon. Bands of cloud rise out of nothing in the west. They swell, drift, darken, and dissolve over the hills. By evening the screen is clear. Each band felt permanent to the people standing under it.
That is a generation seen from above. Ours is one band on the screen. The confident people of every age, Pharaoh's included, thought they were the climate. They were the weather.
This is meant to shrink the ego, gently. The achievements we guard so anxiously, the name we want remembered, belong to one afternoon's cloud. The One who raises the cloud is not one of the bands on the screen.
And notice the turn at the end of the ayah: kunnā mursilīn, We were the senders. The generations rise and pass. The sending does not pass with them.
Someone may ask why Allah speaks of His power at all. Does He need it acknowledged? He does not: 'Allah is the Rich, the Praiseworthy' (35:15). The cloud gains nothing when you look up at it. You gain the right sense of scale, and lose the strain of pretending to be large.
There is freedom in this. You do not have to be the climate. You only have to be good weather, for the time you are given, under the One who sends.
