Al-Ahqaf 46:8
“Or do they say, "He has invented it"? Say, "If I have invented it, you will not possess for me [the power of protection] from Allāh at all. He is most knowing of that in which you are involved.[1478] Sufficient is He as Witness between me and you, and He is the Forgiving, the Merciful."”

Essence
Accused of forgery, the Prophet ﷺ answers that no one could shield him from Allah, that Allah is witness enough, and that forgiveness still waits.
A reflection
No one can shield anyone from Him
Look at who is speaking. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ, the one the surah has just called a clear warner, places himself completely under Allah's power. If I had invented this, he says, you could not do a single thing to protect me from Allah. The commentaries spell it out: He would hasten the punishment for such a lie, and no one on earth could hold Him back.
The same truth appears in a scene in Sahih al-Bukhari. When he was commanded to warn his nearest kin, he called out to his clan by name. To his uncle, to his aunt, and finally to his own daughter, he said: I cannot avail you anything against Allah. Fatimah, ask me for whatever you want of my wealth, but I cannot avail you anything against Allah.
That is majesty seen from below. If the most honoured of creation says it of himself and of his own daughter, every other claim to untouchability collapses. Picture an elderly man who has spent his life getting out of consequences. A word to a friend, a call to a cousin, a favour quietly owed. Now he sits in a cardiologist's office as a scan is explained to him. He scrolls through his phone, through hundreds of contacts. There is no one to call. Not one name on that list can change what the screen shows.
The ego quietly assumes there is always someone who can fix things for us. The ayah removes that assumption.
Is it vain for Allah to insist on this? The opposite. A God who could be lobbied, bribed or outmanoeuvred by well-connected people would be unjust to everyone without connections. His total independence is the poor man's guarantee. He needs nothing from anyone (35:15). That is exactly why no one can buy their way past Him.
