Al-Ahqaf 46:9
“Say, "I am not something new among the messengers,[1479] nor do I know what will be done with me or with you. I only follow that which is revealed to me, and I am not but a clear warner."”

Essence
The Messenger is told to say plainly: I am not the first, I do not know what lies ahead, and I only follow what I am given.
A reflection
The courage to say "I don't know"
One commentary explains what provoked this ayah. People kept demanding spectacular signs and asking the Prophet ﷺ about hidden things that had not been revealed to him. He was told to answer: I am not some novelty among the messengers, able to produce whatever you suggest. Messengers only bring what Allah gives them, and only report what is revealed. The same commentary recalls that Musa answered Pharaoh's question about earlier generations in the same spirit: their knowledge is with my Lord (20:52).
That is an extraordinary thing for a leader to say in public, under pressure, to people looking for any reason to dismiss him. I do not know what will be done with me, or with you.
Picture a hospital chief executive at an all-staff meeting during a funding crisis. Someone at the back asks the question everyone is thinking: will there be job cuts? She could reassure them. She could bluff. Instead she says: 'I don't know yet. Here is what I do know. Here is when I will know more, and I will tell you the same day.' The room is uneasy. But over the following months, people believe every word she says.
Leaders are tempted to project certainty they do not have. It feels like strength. Over time it becomes a debt, and trust pays the interest. The Prophet ﷺ had every reason to claim more. He claimed exactly what was true: I follow only what is revealed to me, and I am only a clear warner.
If you lead anyone, a team, a class, a family, practise the sentence. Say what you know, say what you do not, and never borrow authority from a future you cannot see.
