Al-Mulk 67:17

أَمْ أَمِنتُم مَّن فِى ٱلسَّمَآءِ أَن يُرْسِلَ عَلَيْكُمْ حَاصِبًا ۖ فَسَتَعْلَمُونَ كَيْفَ نَذِيرِ

“Or do you feel secure that He who is above would not send against you a storm of stones? Then you would know how [severe] was My warning.”

Essence

The second question closes the sky, and its sting is not the stones but the promise that you will know, when knowing is no use.

A reflection

The sky is not infrastructure

A hailstorm can take a nursery apart in four minutes. Acres of glass, raised in sections over fifteen years, every pane set by hand. The grower hears it start on the roof and there is nothing in the world he can do but listen. By the time it passes he is standing in a field of blades with a crop open to the weather.

We have quietly reclassified the sky. It is a forecast, a flight corridor, a thing with a seven-day outlook and a colour-coded warning. Treating it as managed is the most ordinary vanity there is, and it costs nothing until a cloud disagrees.

The word used here is not rain or wind in general. It names the wind that arrives with the small stones of the ground inside it. It tears them up and throws them at whatever stands in the open. Every lexicon on it says the same plain thing. The threat is not exotic. It is ordinary matter, moving, which is all any of us is ever destroyed by.

And notice the verb. He would release it. It is the same verb, in the same form, used across the Quran for sending messengers: to send, to let loose. A camel described from this root walks at an easy pace, without being driven, and milk flows from the udder by it. So the sending is not a loss of control. It is a release of what was being held.

That is the shape of the thing that shrinks a person honestly. Not that God is angry, but that He is holding. Pride needs you to believe the restraint is simply how the universe is. It is a decision, renewed over your head this minute, by Someone not required to renew it.
