Essence

Not a single person among the entire listening audience, acting together or entirely alone, could ever have stood between this consequence and the one it was aimed at.

A reflection

The barrier that does not exist here

A ḥājiz is a barrier, the very word used elsewhere for the invisible wall keeping two different seas from mixing into one another (27:61), each held apart by something no one can see or touch. This ayah uses the identical picture only to deny it exists here at all: no such wall, no such intervening force, stands between the consequence just described and the one it would have fallen on.

That closes the argument opened four ayat earlier with total finality. Having hypothesised the fabrication, named its instant consequence, and described exactly how it would be carried out, the passage now removes the one thing a listener might still have been quietly hoping for: some possible rescue, some ally powerful enough to intervene. There is none. Not because no one would have tried, but because the barrier that holds back seas themselves simply has no equivalent here.

The word aḥad, anyone at all, strengthens the denial further. It is not merely that the obvious allies could not help. It is that not one single person, from any direction, with any resource, could have supplied the missing barrier.
