Nuh 71:11
يُرْسِلِ ٱلسَّمَآءَ عَلَيْكُم مِّدْرَارًا
“He will send [rain from] the sky upon you in [continuing] showers”
Saheeh International
Essence
Forgiveness is immediately followed by its first visible fruit: rain sent down in abundance, not as a trickle but as a flood of provision.
A reflection
The rain nobody thanks Allah for
A family that has lived through a real drought thanks Allah for rain the moment it finally breaks, watching the first drops hit a parched garden with something close to relief. The same family, eleven months later, barely notices the ordinary Tuesday rain that waters the same garden without ceremony, because scarcity is what taught them to notice it the first time.
This ayah promises Nuh's people rain as a consequence of turning back to Allah, which suggests the ordinary rain they had stopped receiving was never as ordinary as it felt before it was withheld. Provision noticed only in its absence was still provision the whole time it was present and unremarked.
Think of a reservoir that supplies an entire town's water for decades without a single resident thinking about it, until the year a drought drops it dangerously low and every tap suddenly feels precious. The reservoir did not become more valuable the day it nearly ran dry. Its value was constant. Only the noticing changed, triggered by scarcity rather than by anything about the water itself.
Nuh's people needed rain withheld before they would connect any of it to Allah at all. The invitation in this ayah, and in the gratitude it is meant to provoke, is to close that gap without needing the drought first: to notice the reservoir while it is still full, rather than only once the tap runs dry and the connection finally becomes impossible to miss, by which point the gratitude has already been delayed for years it did not need to be.
