Makki · 19 ayat · 19 with pondering
- Ayah 1The sky no one has ever found a crack in will split at one word from the One who first split it open.
- Ayah 2The stars that adorned every night were pearls on a thread only He holds; when He lets go, they scatter.
- Ayah 3The seas, the widest thing humans have ever stood before, will burst open at a command, because even they are small before Him.
- Ayah 4Every grave, grand or unmarked, will be turned over and emptied at His command; no one buried is ever lost to Him.
- Ayah 5When everything else is undone, each soul will know both columns of its account: what it sent ahead, and what it held back.
- Ayah 6After the sky splits, one voice turns to you alone: what fooled you about a Lord whose generosity should have drawn you nearer?
- Ayah 7Before you ever stood tall, Another measured, levelled and balanced you; the posture you are proud of was a gift, not an achievement.
- Ayah 8Your face, colour and family likeness were set by His will like a stone in a ring: nothing to boast of, nothing to despise.
- Ayah 9Beneath every excuse about God's generosity lies a quieter reason: a belief, rarely spoken, that nothing we do will ever come back to us.
- Ayah 10You are not being spied on but kept: guardians are set over you so that nothing you do, good or bad, is ever lost.
- Ayah 11Your record is kept by noble scribes honoured by their Lord: nothing false is added to it, and nothing true slips out.
- Ayah 12The keepers know what you do, every deed, small or great; the passing thoughts you fight against are not counted as your deeds.
- Ayah 13Those whose goodness is wide and true are in bliss: fully in the life to come, and already, in part, in this one.
- Ayah 14Those whose lives burst their banks are in a blaze that feeds on itself, and its first heat can be felt long before the end.
- Ayah 15The Day they called a fiction is the Day they meet: they enter the fire of which this life gave only warnings.
- Ayah 16Those who treated the unseen as if it were absent will find that they can never be absent from what they denied.
- Ayah 17Some knowledge cannot be hunted down by cleverness; the Day of Recompense is too vast to work out, so it has to be told.
- Ayah 18Asked again, after a pause, the question tells you that whatever you pictured the first time was still far too small.
- Ayah 19On that Day every borrowed power is handed back: no soul can do a thing for another, and every command is Allah's alone.
