- Ayah 1The sun that men once called themselves servants of will be wound up like a turban cloth, by the One who never needed its light.
- Ayah 2The stars that travellers steered by and debts were timed by will pour down like a stooping falcon; only their Lord was ever fixed.
- Ayah 3The mountains people climbed to be safe will themselves be set travelling like a caravan; the only high ground left will be His mercy.
- Ayah 4The Arab's most prized possession, a camel days from giving birth, will be left untended; no one will glance at their best asset.
- Ayah 5The wild creatures that spend their lives keeping away from us will be gathered by their Lord, every one, and no wrong among them lost.

- Ayah 7On that Day every soul is joined to its match; the company you love now is quietly choosing the company you will keep then.
- Ayah 8Amid the collapse of the universe, the Quran stops for one small girl whom no one heard, and it is she who is asked.
- Ayah 9'For what sin was she killed?' has one answer, none, and it still sounds wherever the weak pay for others' choices.
- Ayah 10The pages you dictate every day are folded at death and spread open on that Day; the author reading them will be you.
- Ayah 11The sky, the ceiling every king has lived under, will be peeled away like a hide, and only the true King will remain.
- Ayah 12The Fire is stoked on that Day, and an early explanation names its fuel: the anger of Allah and the wrongs people carried to it.
- Ayah 13The Fire is stoked, but the Garden is brought near: it comes to meet those who spent their lives walking towards it, step by step.
- Ayah 14After twelve 'when's that shake the universe, the answer is three words about you: a soul will know what it has brought.
- Ayah 15Allah swears by stars that seem to turn back and hide: wayward from where we stand, yet never off the course He set.
- Ayah 16The stars run their course and slip home like gazelles into their coverts; the One who swears by them keeps every runner, and never tires.
- Ayah 17Allah swears by the night at its thin edges, coming on and slipping away: a darkness no one else can bring or remove.
- Ayah 18After the long held breath of the night, the morning breathes out; every dawn is relief given, not relief earned.
- Ayah 19Everything the oaths were sworn for comes to this: the Quran is a message carried by a noble messenger, not words someone made up.

- Ayah 24The most precious knowledge ever given to a human being was handed out freely, to friends and enemies, with nothing held back.
- Ayah 25The Quran is not a pelted devil's word: no devil could carry it, none would want to, and every recitation begins by driving him off.
- Ayah 26After every proof has been laid out, the surah asks the only question left, and asks it of you: so where are you going?
- Ayah 27The Quran calls itself a reminder to all the worlds: not strange news from outside, but what every soul half knows, brought back to mind.
- Ayah 28The reminder is for everyone, but it works for the one who wants to stand straight; the Quran will not walk for you.
- Ayah 29Your will is real, yet even the wanting to go straight is a gift from the Lord of the worlds, so ask Him for it.
