مِنَ ٱلْجِنَّةِ وَٱلنَّاسِ
“From among the jinn and mankind."[2017]”

Essence
The Quran's last words warn that whisperers come in two kinds, unseen and seen, and some of the seen ones have your number.
A reflection
The whisperer you can see
We imagine the whisperer as invisible. The Quran's last words say some of them are people. The friend who says 'everyone does it'. The colleague who plants suspicion about your manager. The relative who keeps reopening an old family wound. The feed that makes your life feel too small.
Human whisperers work like the unseen kind, and the sources describe it closely. They present themselves as sincere, concerned advisers. If you rebuff them, they back off; if you listen, they press harder. They too are khannās. An early saying went further: the human devil is harder on people than the jinn devil. The jinn whispers where you cannot see him. This one looks you in the eye.
The Quran gives a different remedy for each. For the unseen whisperer: seek refuge in Allah. For the human one: turn away, forgive, and repel the bad with what is better (41:34–36). Refuge for the one you cannot see; goodness for the one you can. The sources notice that the second remedy is the harder one, and that the enemy fights it hardest. He makes returning good for bad look like weakness. If he cannot push you to revenge, he settles for cold distance. That is why the passage ends, right there, with seeking refuge in the All-Hearing, the All-Knowing.
A serious doubt needs answering here. Doesn't this give people a licence to call anyone they dislike a 'devil'? Every group has used such labels to strip opponents of their humanity. But look at what the ayah actually names. It does not name a race, a nation or a faith. It names an activity: whispering harm into chests. Anyone can do it, believers included. And the prescribed response to a human whisperer is not hatred but better conduct.
So the honest first use of this ayah is as a mirror. In whose chest have you been the whisperer? The comment that nudged a friend towards a grudge. The joke that made a wrong seem normal. The ayah protects you from others, and others from you.
