Al-Kahf 18:43
وَلَمْ تَكُن لَّهُۥ فِئَةٌ يَنصُرُونَهُۥ مِن دُونِ ٱللَّهِ وَمَا كَانَ مُنتَصِرًا
“And there was for him no company to aid him other than Allāh, nor could he defend himself.”

Essence
Both halves of his boast are removed by name, and the word for his clan means a part split off from the whole.
A reflection
Nobody stands in the space
The small word rendered besides is worth stopping on. The lexicons describe it as nearness and approach. Then as whatever stands in the space between a person and the thing they are reaching for. The illustration one of them gives is a company of men standing between you and the river.
A river and a company of men. Those are the two items this man owned and boasted of.
So the sentence says that he had no party able to stand in the space between him and Allah. Not that they lost a fight. That there is no space for anybody to stand in.
There are men who have never in their lives dealt with anyone directly. Three people in between, always: someone to make the call, someone to take the meeting, someone to be unhappy on their behalf. It works, and it works so well that the habit becomes a belief about how reality is arranged. Then there is one morning when the thing in front of them has no intermediary and never did.
This is where pride finds itself short of equipment. Arrogance is almost always built on a layer of other people. The confidence is not really in yourself; it is in the depth of the arrangement around you. Take the arrangement away and most of what looked like self-possession turns out to have been staffing.
And the verse does not say Allah defeated the clan. It says there was nobody besides Him. The clan was never in that position, which means nothing was taken away when it turned out not to be there.
The river had a company of men standing between him and it. He had no such thing standing anywhere else.
