Saba 34:14
“And when We decreed for him [i.e., Solomon] death, nothing indicated to them [i.e., the jinn] his death except a creature of the earth eating his staff.[1222] But when he fell, it became clear to the jinn that if they had known the unseen, they would not have remained in humiliating punishment.[1223]”

Essence
The king who commanded wind and jinn died standing, and only a creeping thing chewing his staff told anyone.
A reflection
The one appointment no king could move
Read the ayat just before this one. The wind carried Sulayman (as) a month's journey in a morning and a month's in an evening. A spring of molten copper flowed for him. Jinn built his halls, his statues, basins like reservoirs and cauldrons fixed in place. No human court has ever had a workforce like his.
Then one sentence: When We decreed death upon him. No battle, no rival, no illness is mentioned. One classical reading is that the decree was settled and carried out, a matter already closed. The mightiest kingdom in the Quran ends on the word We.
One commentator draws the conclusion directly. If anyone could have been spared death, Sulayman had the strongest claim. He was not spared. So the ayah answers the question every powerful person avoids: what happens to all this when I stop?
The answer is humbling for the ego. The work went on. The walls kept rising. The world you run does not notice the moment you leave it. Pride grows in the belief that we are load-bearing, that things would fall apart without us. The ayah lets the air out of that belief gently. Even the prophet-king was carried, every breath by permission.
Someone may ask why Allah would stress His power over a prophet's death. Is that a ruler showing off? Showing off needs an audience whose applause it wants. Allah needs none: you are the poor in need of Allah, and Allah is the Rich, the Praiseworthy (35:15).
The display here served others. It freed labourers from a lie, and freed people from fearing those who claimed hidden knowledge. The only One whose plans never pause for anyone's death is the One who needs nothing from any of them.
