Saba 34:37
“And it is not your wealth or your children that bring you nearer to Us in position, but it is [by being] one who has believed and done righteousness. For them there will be the double reward for what they did, and they will be in the upper chambers [of Paradise], safe [and secure].”

Essence
Nothing you own carries you nearer to Allah; faith and good deeds do, and they lead to high rooms where fear finally ends.
A reflection
Nearness is walked, not bought
The ayah uses two words for nearness, one inside the other. Tuqarribukum, they bring you near, and then zulfā, nearness of rank. The second word carries a picture. The lexicons describe advancing and drawing close step by step. Picture pilgrims pressing on from ʿArafat at dusk, the road closing stage by stage. Zulfā is not nearness handed over in one transaction. It is nearness approached, one stretch at a time.
That is exactly why money cannot buy it.
Picture a charity gala in a grand hotel. The seating plan has been arranged with care. Donors who gave the most sit at the tables nearest the stage. The guest of honour will shake their hands first. Those who gave less are further back, near the doors. Everyone understands the rules. Nearness has a price list.
This ayah tears up that seating plan. Neither your wealth nor your children, it says, are what bring you near to Us. The pampered of 34:35 had assumed the world's seating plan applied in heaven too. More wealth, more children, a front table with God.
Muslim records the Prophet ﷺ saying something that fits this ayah exactly. Allah does not look at your appearance or your wealth. He looks at your hearts and your deeds. That is the only seating plan that counts.
Notice that this is good news, especially for those at the back of the hall. The road of zulfā is open to anyone who will walk it. Its steps are belief and righteous action, and nobody can be priced off them. A poor woman's patient prayer moves her as far along that road as a rich man's. Sometimes further.
