Ya-Sin 36:12
“Indeed, it is We who bring the dead to life and record what they have put forth and what they left behind, and all things We have enumerated in a clear register.”

Essence
The One who needs no introduction raises the dead and keeps every footprint, even the ones the wind fills in by evening.
A reflection
The One who needs no introduction
At a festival, a world-famous cellist signs the visitors' book. Above her, people have written full names, titles, cities, the orchestras they play for. She writes only her first name. Nobody who sees the page needs anything more.
The ayah opens with two pronouns stacked together: innā naḥnu, indeed We, We. A classical commentator reads it through an old line of Arabic verse, 'I am Abu al-Najm, and my poetry is my poetry'. That is how the very famous speak, he explains. Ask an unknown man who he is and he will say: I am the son of so-and-so. Ask someone known to everyone and he says: I am I. There is no clearer way to identify him than himself.
So innā naḥnu means: We are known by every attribute of perfection. And he adds a second point. Whoever shares a name with others needs something extra to be told apart. Allah needs nothing extra. There is no one alongside Him from whom He must be distinguished.
Think how much of our pride is built on introductions. The job title on the lanyard. The surname that opens doors. The school, the company, the city, the number of people who follow us. Strip them away and most of us would struggle to say who we are. We borrow our weight from labels.
He borrows nothing. That is the first shrinking of the ego in this ayah.
Someone may ask whether this grand 'We' is boastful. Does He need us to be impressed? A later commentator explains the pronoun as one of majesty, pointing to the greatness of the act that follows. And the emphasis answers a denial. The deniers had said there is only our life in this world, and we will not be raised (23:37). He gains nothing from our being impressed. The emphasis is for the one who doubted.
