Al-Jathiyah 45:11
“This [Qur’ān] is guidance. And those who have disbelieved in the verses of their Lord will have a painful punishment of foul nature.”

Essence
Two words, 'this is guidance', and then the other road: the Book does not merely contain direction, it is direction itself.
A reflection
Not a book about guidance: guidance itself
Hādhā hudan: 'this is guidance'. Two words, and two classical commentators linger on how much they carry. One compares it to saying of someone, 'Zayd is a man', meaning not merely male but complete in manhood. The Quran, he says, is complete in guidance. The other puts it more strongly still: it is guidance at its utmost, as if it were guidance itself. One early authority, quoted in another commentary, widens 'this' to everything the Prophet ﷺ brought.
The word hudā has a road behind it. The lexicons say its root means to direct someone to the road and set him right on it. A bride was 'led' to her husband; a gift was brought; the foot, in an old verse, 'leads' the leg. Daytime itself was called al-hudā: the hours in which people can find their way. The road is made plain, and someone walks you along it.
Picture a blind runner at a park run, tethered by a short cord to her guide. The guide does not hand her a map and wish her luck. He runs beside her, matching her stride, calling the camber of the path, the tree root, the turn ahead. They cross the finish together. She ran every step herself. But she ran them guided.
That is the difference between a book about guidance and a book that is guidance. One gives information and leaves you alone with it. The other walks with you. Recite it, and it is beside you in the morning, at work, at the hard conversation, on the night you cannot sleep.
This also explains why the ayat before it were so severe about mockery and refusal. It is one thing to ignore a pamphlet. It is another to untie the cord from the runner beside you and set off alone in the dark.
Hold the cord. You still run your own race. But you do not have to run it blind.
