Al-Ahqaf 46:29
“And [mention, O Muḥammad], when We directed to you a few of the jinn, listening to the Qur’ān. And when they attended it, they said, "Listen attentively." And when it was concluded, they went back to their people as warners.”

Essence
A small band of jinn, turned towards the Prophet, hush each other to hear the Quran, stay to the last word, and go home as warners.
A reflection
The hush that comes before understanding
The first word the jinn are recorded as saying is not a question or an opinion. It is anṣitū: be silent. One early commentator, quoted in a narration-based commentary, explains it in a sentence: they knew they would not understand until they fell silent.
The root of anṣitū means one thing, silence, but not empty quiet. The lexicons describe inṣāt as the hush of someone listening, stopping speech so that nothing is missed. A poet pictured animals slowing their chewing, falling silent to hear. The image is established.
Picture a noisy family dinner. Plates clatter, two conversations run over each other, a toddler bangs a spoon. Then the grandfather, who rarely speaks, begins to tell how he first met their grandmother sixty years ago, at a bus stop in the rain. Within a sentence the table is silent. The teenagers put their phones face down. Even the toddler stops. Nobody asked for quiet. The story made it.
That is the posture the jinn took before the Quran, and the posture worship asks of us. Allah needs none of our attention; He is free of all need (35:15). But we need the hush. So much of modern life is noise: notifications, opinions, our own inner commentary. The hunger underneath is to hear something that matters. 'Is it not in the remembrance of Allah that hearts find rest?' (13:28).
The Quran itself asks for this posture elsewhere: when it is recited, listen to it and be silent (7:204).
Tonight, before reading or hearing even a few ayat, say to yourself what the jinn said to each other: anṣitū. Then let everything else stop chewing for a moment.
