Al-Hujurat الحجرات
Madani · 18 ayat · 18 with pondering
- Ayah 1Before you speak, decide or rush ahead, remember whose presence you are standing in: the One who hears every word and knows every motive.
- Ayah 2A voice can carry more than sound: lower it before the Prophet ﷺ, because what swells unnoticed can empty a lifetime of deeds.
- Ayah 3A lowered voice is the outward sign of a heart Allah has held in the fire and refined for taqwa.
- Ayah 4They shouted through a wall built to hold people back, because nothing inside them held them back: a picture of cleverness without restraint.
- Ayah 5Waiting at the right door until it opens is itself a form of honour, and it gets you more than shouting ever could.
- Ayah 6Weighty news from an unreliable source is not a fact until you have checked it, because the people it names cannot be un-harmed.
- Ayah 7The guide among you does not follow your impulses, and your love of faith was never your own achievement: it was placed there.
- Ayah 8Your faith is overflow from a treasury that needs nothing, given in pure kindness by One who knows exactly where it belongs.
- Ayah 9When believers fall out, bring them back like returning shade, then settle what happened with a justice that leaves no splinter behind.
- Ayah 10Faith ties believers together like brothers by birth, so when two of them fall out, everyone else is family and must go and mend it.
- Ayah 11The person you laugh at may be better than you before Allah, and every insult you throw comes back as a name you wear yourself.
- Ayah 12A guess becomes a search, the search becomes a story, and the story is your brother's flesh: the ayah breaks every link.
- Ayah 13Every family line runs back to the same two people, and the only rank that counts is the one no one but Allah can see.
- Ayah 14Saying you have arrived is not arriving; faith had not yet entered, yet the door stayed open and no deed would be lost.
- Ayah 15True faith stays steady over the years and proves itself by what it gives, like a spear shaft that does not snap when tested.
- Ayah 16No one can inform Allah about their own heart; He knows all in the heavens and earth, even what we have not admitted to ourselves.
- Ayah 17Your religion is not a favour you did for Allah or His Messenger; being guided to faith is His favour to you.
- Ayah 18Every manner this surah teaches is finally kept or broken where no one else is watching, and that is exactly where Allah sees.
