Al-Fath الفتح
Madani · 29 ayat · 29 with pondering
- Ayah 1Allah named a turned-back pilgrimage a clear opening, on the road home, before anyone could see what it had opened.
- Ayah 2The gift for that turned-back journey was not praise but cover: forgiveness behind, a favour completed around, and a straight road ahead.
- Ayah 3The last of the four gifts is help, named under Allah's own name, and it came as a peace that left no lowness behind it.
- Ayah 4At the bleakest hour of Hudaybiyyah, Allah lodged stillness in believers' hearts rather than sending an army, so their faith would grow.
- Ayah 5To the question 'and what about us?', Allah answered with gardens, sins covered, and a triumph made great by being with Him.
- Ayah 6The offence singled out here is an opinion, thinking the worst of Allah, and the turn its holders awaited for the believers closes on them.
- Ayah 7Said a second time, the armies of heaven and earth now close on 'Mighty', a warning to the plotters and a shelter for believers.
- Ayah 8Allah names the Prophet's role in three words: one who was there and will testify, one who brings joy, and one who warns.
- Ayah 9The Prophet was sent so that people would believe, stand by him, give him his weight, and glorify Allah morning and evening.
- Ayah 10A pledge to the Prophet was a pledge to Allah, His hand over theirs: breaking it harms only the breaker; keeping it brings immense reward.
- Ayah 11Those who stayed home offer a busy excuse and ask for prayers they do not mean; harm and benefit are Allah's alone, and He knows.
- Ayah 12Allah peels back the stayers' polite excuse to the real reason underneath: they expected the believers never to come home, and the expectation pleased them.
- Ayah 13Allah turns the stayers' case into a rule for anyone: faith joins Him and His Messenger, and the alternative is already prepared.
- Ayah 14Straight after the warning, Allah names His dominion over everything, and the last words He chooses for Himself are Forgiving and Merciful.
- Ayah 15When the road leads to spoils the stayers ask to come, and the ayah foretells their request, their charge of envy and their thin understanding.
- Ayah 16Those who stayed home are not shut out: another call is coming, to a harder road, and their answer will show what they have become.
- Ayah 17The blind, the lame and the sick are each named and released, and the door of obedience stays open to all of them.
- Ayah 18Under a tree forgotten within a year, Allah saw the hearts of those who pledged, and His pleasure with them is recited still.
- Ayah 19The spoils of Khaybar came last, after Allah's pleasure and the victory, from a Mighty, Wise Lord who needed no one's help.
- Ayah 20Allah hastened one gain and promised many more, held back hands the believers never saw, and made it all a sign that steadies trust.
- Ayah 21Some gains lay beyond the believers' reach; Allah had already ringed them round and held them, for He is able to do all things.
- Ayah 22Had the disbelievers fought, they would have fled with no one to shelter or help them; the truce was chosen from strength.
- Ayah 23The promise that the deniers would have fled at Hudaybiyah is not a lucky guess; it is Allah's old, unaltered way.
- Ayah 24Allah held back two sets of hands at Hudaybiyah, the enemy's and the believers', and He saw what the restraint was for.
- Ayah 25Makkah had earned a reckoning, but Allah held it back for a few hidden believers, so that His mercy could reach them.
- Ayah 26Quraysh lit their hearts with the hot pride of ignorance; Allah sent His calm upon the believers and fastened on them the word of mindfulness.
- Ayah 27The vision of entering the Sacred Mosque was true, only not yet; Allah knew what the believers did not, and gave a nearer opening first.
- Ayah 28Allah Himself sent His Messenger with guidance and the true way of life, to raise it above every other, and His witness is enough.
- Ayah 29A name struck from a treaty opens this closing ayah, which draws the believers as a crop: one grain, then shoots, then a standing field.
