Al-An'am 6:78
“And when he saw the sun rising, he said, "This is my lord; this is greater." But when it set, he said, "O my people, indeed I am free from what you associate with Allāh.”

Essence
The biggest light in the sky goes down like the others, and only then does Ibrahim turn and speak to his people.
A reflection
This one is bigger
When the sun rises, Ibrahim adds two words he did not say of the star or the moon: hādhā akbar, this is greater. One commentary explains: greater than the star and the moon. Another adds: larger in body and brighter in light.
Those two words name the last argument every false god falls back on. Size. If the small lights failed, surely the big one will hold. The star could be dismissed, the moon could be dismissed, but the sun fills the whole sky. It warms, it ripens, it rules the day. If anything in creation deserved worship, this was it.
And it set like the others.
That is the force of the order. The passage climbs from the faintest light to the greatest, and lets every one of them go down. By the time the sun sets, there is nothing bigger left in the sky to try. Size has been tested at its maximum and found wanting.
The same logic runs through modern life, just as quietly. Picture a city that once boasted the largest shopping centre in the country. It drew crowds from three counties and the mayor gave speeches beside it. Fifteen years later, half its units stand empty, and the car park is used for driving lessons. It was bigger than everything around it. It still went down.
Bigger is not the same as lasting, and lasting is not the same as divine. The ayah teaches you to stop being impressed by scale. The largest company, the loudest crowd, the most powerful person in your life: ask the sun question. When it sets, what will you be left facing?
