Al-Mumtahanah 60:3
“Never will your relatives or your children benefit you; the Day of Resurrection He will judge between you. And Allāh, of what you do, is Seeing.”

A reflection
The exact excuse, answered directly
This ayah answers a specific sentence spoken a moment earlier in this surah's history. When confronted over his secret letter, the believer it concerns explained himself plainly: he had no kinsmen left among his people to protect the family he had left behind, so he sought a favour with them instead, for their sake. It was, by any ordinary measure, a loving reason. The ayah's reply is not that the love was fake. It is that the love, however real, could not do what he needed it to do.
This is a harder truth than it first sounds, because most people quietly believe something close to the opposite: that devotion to family is close to a moral trump card, able to justify almost anything done in its name. A father who falsifies a reference to help his son land a job he is not qualified for, or who quietly ignores a colleague's complaint about his daughter's conduct at work, is often working from exactly this assumption, that loving them enough is itself the justification.
The ayah does not ask anyone to love their family less. The root word for kinship here, arḥām, is the same root behind Allah's own name of mercy, so the bond itself is not what is in question. What is in question is whether that bond can be made to carry weight it was never built to carry: weight that belongs, in the end, to a person's own standing before Allah, which no amount of love for them, or from them, can be transferred into.
