As-Saf 61:1
سَبَّحَ لِلَّهِ مَا فِى ٱلسَّمَـٰوَٰتِ وَمَا فِى ٱلْأَرْضِ ۖ وَهُوَ ٱلْعَزِيزُ ٱلْحَكِيمُ
“Whatever is in the heavens and whatever is on the earth exalts Allāh,[1681] and He is the Exalted in Might, the Wise.”
Saheeh International
Essence
Everything in the heavens and earth already glorifies Allah without being asked twice, before a single word is said to the people who are about to be.
A reflection
Mighty and Wise, needing neither word
Before this surah says a word to a human being, it reports something already finished without any of us: everything in the heavens and the earth has declared Allah far above every flaw. The skies did not wait for a listener. The declaration closes on two names, the Mighty and the Wise, in that order. Might comes first: nothing resists Him. Wisdom follows: nothing He does is without reason, including how this surah is ordered.
A fair question sits underneath this. If the universe already glorifies Him and needs no audience to do it, why does a book addressed to people open by announcing that fact? Is this a King reminding the room of His own importance?
The answer is in what glorification costs Him: nothing. He is al-Ghaniyy, free of need (35:15). A hadith qudsi has Him say that if every being who ever lived gathered on one patch of ground and asked of Him, giving them all everything they asked would not lessen what He has by as much as a needle dipped once into the sea (Sahih Muslim). The stars glide in their courses whether or not anyone looks up. That is not insecurity announcing itself. It is a fact stated before the surah turns, one line later, to people who are not nearly so consistent.
Set beside that, human pride looks almost comic: we need to be told we are right, thanked for what cost us little, remembered for what we have forgotten to be grateful for ourselves. The ego that cannot rest until noticed is the opposite of a sky that has glorified Him since before anyone was there to overhear it.
