As-Saf · Madani · ayah 6 of 14
As-Saf 61:6
“And [mention] when Jesus, the son of Mary, said, "O Children of Israel, indeed I am the messenger of Allāh to you confirming what came before me of the Torah and bringing good tidings of a messenger to come after me, whose name is Aḥmad."[1682] But when he came to them with clear evidences, they said, "This is obvious magic."[1683]”

Essence
Isa, son of Maryam, confirms the Torah he was sent with and, in the same breath, points his own people towards a messenger still to come, named Ahmad.
A reflection
A prophet who confirms, not a rival who replaces
Before this ayah says anything about what is to come, it records what Isa said about what came before him. He describes himself as muṣaddiqan, confirming, what was already in his hands of the Torah. He does not announce a break from the revelation given to Musa. He announces continuity with it, standing as one more honoured link in a single chain rather than the start of something unrelated.
The Quran addresses him here as a true, sent messenger, carrying Allah's own word to his people, exactly as the Quran addresses Musa two ayat earlier. Nothing in this ayah diminishes him to make room for what follows. He speaks with full prophetic authority, in his own words, about the Torah he honours and about a messenger he says is still to come.
This matters for how the whole ayah should be read. What follows is not a claim made about Isa from outside, by people with something to gain from reducing him. It is presented as his own statement, in his own voice, to his own people, continuing a pattern he says he is confirming rather than ending.
