At-Tahrim 66:4

“If you two [wives] repent to Allāh, [it is best], for your hearts have deviated. But if you cooperate against him - then indeed Allāh is his protector, and Gabriel and the righteous of the believers and the angels, moreover, are [his] assistants.”

Essence

If two people who love you put their backs together against you, Allah's own backing is simply larger — Himself, Gabriel, every righteous believer, and the angels.

A reflection

Backs put together, and the greater back put behind him

The word used for the two wives standing together against the Prophet ﷺ, taẓāharā, pictures something exact. The root is the back — the side of the body that carries weight, and the side two people press together when they stand shoulder to shoulder against a third. To ẓāhara someone is to put your back against theirs; to do it against someone is this ayah's precise shade of the word.

Then watch what the ayah answers it with. Allah is his mawlā. Gabriel, named individually, not folded into a general list of angels. The righteous among the believers. And finally, the angels, after all that, are a ẓahīr — the very same root, back-support, now stacked up behind him in a column far longer than two.

Two business partners once quietly aligned in private meetings against the third founder of their company, assuming that two votes would always outweigh one. They had not noticed that the third founder already had the board, the auditors and the original investors fully behind her — support she had never needed to recruit, because it had simply been there all along, built into the structure before the disagreement ever started.

That is the shape of this ayah. It does not deny that two people, even two who love someone, can stand back to back against him. It simply shows what that alliance is actually up against. Whatever human solidarity forms against you for a difficult season, the back Allah puts behind you, when you are in the right, does not need to be assembled in a hurry. It was already there.
