Al-Qalam 68:5

فَسَتُبْصِرُ وَيُبْصِرُونَ

“So you will see and they will see”

Saheeh International

Essence

Both sides of the argument are told the same thing: wait, and you will both see clearly who was right.

A reflection

No argument offered, only time

After three ayat defending the Prophet ﷺ against the charge of madness, a reader expects an argument next: a list of reasons the accusation is false, a rebuttal aimed at the accusers directly. Instead comes this: you will see, and they will see. No evidence presented. No debate opened. Just a shared future both sides are told to wait for.

The verb is tubṣiru, from a root for sight becoming clear, not merely eyes being open. A newborn animal is said to baṣṣara the moment it first opens its eyes properly; the word names the instant blur becomes shape. This ayah promises that instant to both parties in the dispute, at the same time, without saying when.

There is something almost merciful in refusing to argue the point here. An argument invites a counter-argument, and counter-arguments rarely end disputes; they prolong them, each side sharpening its case rather than examining it. By declining to argue and simply pointing to a coming clarity, the ayah removes the temptation to win the exchange and replaces it with something harder and more honest: patience, held by someone who is certain enough of the outcome not to need to force it early.

A father waits years, sometimes decades, for a grown child who left the family's religion to encounter something that reopens the question for them, rather than arguing theology at every family dinner until everyone dreads the subject. He is not giving up on the truth mattering. He has simply noticed that some things are seen in their own time, not argued into being seen early.
