Ad-Duhaa 93:5

وَلَسَوْفَ يُعْطِيكَ رَبُّكَ فَتَرْضَىٰٓ

“And your Lord is going to give you, and you will be satisfied.”

Essence

The gift is certain even if it is late, and it does not stop until you are content.

A reflection

Measured by your contentment, not His cost

Read the measure of this gift again, slowly. Not: He will give you a great deal. Not: He will give you what you asked for. Fa-tarḍā, until you are content.

No creature can offer a gift on those terms, and we should let that land before we move on.

A glassblower is asked to make a vessel as large as he can. He will not answer with a size. He gathers what the pipe will carry, and he blows with the lungs he has. The limit is never the customer's wish. The limit is the man and his breath. Every human gift is like that. We give to the edge of what we can spare, then we stop, and we usually mention afterwards that we gave.

That is where our pride lives, and this ayah quietly empties it. We are proud of our generosity precisely because it costs us. Vanity grows in the gap between what we gave and what we could have kept. For Him there is no such gap. Giving until a servant is content takes nothing from Him at all, which is why He can name that as the measure and we cannot.

Someone may ask the fair question underneath. If giving costs Him nothing, why does He announce it? Does He want the credit?

He is al-Ghanī, free of all need (35:15). He tells us plainly that whoever strives, strives only for himself (29:6). A gift that costs the giver nothing cannot be a bid for approval. There is no debt to be repaid and no reputation to be built. He announces it for the same reason a doctor says the word 'cure' out loud to a frightened patient. The announcement is part of the treatment.

And notice the name used: rabbuka, your Lord. Not a distant power with a reserve to protect. The One responsible for raising you, giving until the one being raised has nothing left to want.

So the small ego sits inside a promise it did not make and cannot match. There is relief in that. You are not the most generous party in your own life.
