فَقَدَرْنَا فَنِعْمَ ٱلْقَـٰدِرُونَ

“And We determined [it], and excellent [are We] to determine.”

Essence

So We measured it all out precisely, and how excellent a measurer We are: the one place in this whole sequence where Allah pauses to name His own skill.

A reflection

Praise that costs nothing and proves everything

Across this entire sequence, the humble fluid, the secure resting place, the measured term, Allah has been describing a process rather than commenting on it. Here, for the first time, the description breaks into something closer to a verdict spoken about Himself: fa-ni'ma al-qadirun, how excellent a measurer We are. It is the one moment in this whole run of ayat where the normally restrained, descriptive voice allows itself a flourish of open self-praise.

A fair doubt meets this immediately: why would the One who needs nothing from anyone pause to applaud His own competence, the way an insecure person fishes for compliments after a minor achievement? Human self-praise nearly always signals exactly this kind of insecurity, a need for an audience's approval to feel the achievement was real. This ayah's praise works in the opposite direction. It is spoken after an achievement so total, so precise, so far beyond any possible competitor's reach, that no audience's agreement could add anything to it whatsoever. A master craftsman does not need your approval of work no one else alive could have attempted; this is not that kind of craftsman needing reassurance, but an entirely different register of mastery stating a plain fact about itself.

The real and entire target of this ayah's praise is not, and was never going to be, Allah's own ego, which carries none whatsoever of the fragility human ego so constantly carries around with it. The real target, instead, is ours. Every quiet human habit of needing recognition, fishing for praise, exaggerating a modest success into something grander, is exposed by comparison with a statement of genuine, total excellence that asks for nothing back from anyone. The measurer who actually earned His own praise completely does not need you to agree with Him. The fact that He still names it plainly, with nothing to gain from the naming, should humble every smaller, needier version of self-praise you have ever reached for yourself.
