Al-Ikhlas 112:3
لَمْ يَلِدْ وَلَمْ يُولَدْ
“He neither begets nor is born,”
Saheeh International
Essence
No father to answer to and no son to hand the throne to — no family, no court, standing between you and the One who hears you.
A reflection
Outside the reach of every proud house
There is a saying preserved from the early generations: He was when there was no place and no time, no throne and no creature — and He is now as He was. Lam yalid wa lam yūlad sits outside the whole axis of beginning and ending that every other kind of greatness is measured on.
Every proud house eventually meets that axis. The dynasty that took three generations to build loses its name in the fourth. The empire that called itself eternal is now a chapter in a textbook nobody rereads. Pride about what you have built assumes the axis will be kind to you specifically. It never is, for anyone.
This is the third answer the surah gives to the question that opened it. No lineage (ayah 1). No hollow (ayah 2). And now: no starting point and no closing point either, no family line running through Him the way one runs through every proud house that has ever stood. He was not reduced to nothing which then became something, and He will not pass what He has on to a successor the way every human grandeur eventually must.
That is not a cold fact filed under theology. It is the one piece of solid ground in a world where almost everything else you could be proud of is already, quietly, on its way out.
