Ar-Ra'd 13:41

“Have they not seen that We set upon the land, reducing it from its borders?[645] And Allāh decides; there is no adjuster of His decision. And He is swift in account.”

Essence

The world is shrinking at its edges before their eyes, and no one can reverse a verdict only He can give.

A reflection

The one court with no floor above it

A disqualified athlete takes her case to the one body meant to hear exactly this kind of dispute. It is the final court of appeal in world sport. She loses, on a technicality neither she nor her lawyers had anticipated. There is no higher court to try next. The ruling simply stands, and the only thing left to do with it is live inside it.

Most people meet that kind of ceiling only rarely: a planning decision, a visa refusal, a verdict that cannot be escalated further. This ayah says something far larger is built the same way, all the way up. Allah judges, and no one reverses His judgment. There is no regulator above Him to petition, no higher bench, no leaked technicality to exploit. Whatever He settles stands exactly as settled.

A fair question follows. Does having no court above God make human efforts at justice pointless, since the verdict can never be appealed against? Or is this simply raw power, announced with nothing to answer for it? Neither fits what the ayah actually says. An arbitrary ruling is one with no reasoning behind it and no accountability to anything true. This is the reverse: the very next ayah says He knows what every soul earns, down to the last unseen effort. His court is final not because it is unaccountable but because its knowledge is already complete, nothing left to discover on appeal.

There is also a mercy folded into the finality that an arbitration panel can never offer. A panel can be closed to you by a missed deadline or an unlucky technicality. This court is never closed. Anyone, regardless of status, standing, or the lawyers they can afford, may bring their case to it directly, at any hour, in dua. What should shrink here is not hope but a different kind of pride. It is the quiet assumption that enough power, status, or legal manoeuvring could place a person's case beyond review. Nothing does. The powerful and the powerless answer to exactly the same bench.
