Al-Baqarah 2:111
“And they say, "None will enter Paradise except one who is a Jew or a Christian." That is [merely] their wishful thinking. Say, "Produce your proof, if you should be truthful."”

Essence
Claims that Paradise belongs to one group alone are wishes; the Quran answers them with a single fair request: bring your proof.
A reflection
A faith that asks for proof
At a school science fair, a judge stops at a twelve-year-old's stand about plant growth. 'How do you know?' she asks. The boy grins and opens his notebook: six weeks of measurements, a table, two graphs. The judge smiles. That was the right answer.
Many people assume religion means believing without evidence. This ayah turns that around. Some claimed that only their own group would enter Paradise. The Prophet ﷺ was told to answer with one sentence: 'Bring your proof, if you are truthful'.
A major early commentator calls this a call to a fair standard between all the groups: Muslims, Jews and Christians alike. Each must establish its claim with evidence. A legal commentator quotes him further. Demanding proof here, he says, affirms reasoned enquiry and answers those who reject it. The word chosen, burhān, means more than a hint. The lexicons define it as decisive proof that yields certainty, where a lesser sign yields only likelihood.
A linguist-commentator draws an even sharper conclusion. This ayah, he says, demolishes blind imitation: any claim with no proof behind it is void. The Quran makes the same demand elsewhere, of those who take other gods (21:24, 27:64).
What remains open is the honest limit of proof. The unseen cannot be put under a microscope, and the Quran does not pretend otherwise. But a claim about whom God accepts is a claim about God's own words. The only proof that counts is what He has said.
The twelve-year-old would understand. You do not get to the top of the table by being sure. You get there by showing your working.
