Luqman 31:33
“O mankind, fear your Lord and fear a Day when no father will avail his son, nor will a son avail his father at all. Indeed, the promise of Allāh is truth, so let not the worldly life delude you and be not deceived about Allāh by the Deceiver [i.e., Satan].”

Shield yourself with your Lord before a Day when no parent can settle a child's account, and let nothing fool you about Allah.
A reflection
Why Luqman talked so much
This surah has spent much of its length on a father talking to his son. Luqman warns him against shirk (31:13). He tells him nothing is hidden from Allah, not even a mustard seed inside a rock (31:16). He teaches him prayer and patience, humility, even how to walk and how loudly to speak (31:17–19).
Now, near its end, the surah shows why such talk matters. There is a Day when 'no father will avail his son, nor will a son avail his father at all'.
On that Day a father's love cannot stand in for his son's deeds. One early commentary says that only one means will count then: the righteous deeds a person sent ahead in this life. So whatever a father hopes to give his child for that Day, he must give it now. He cannot pay later. He can only teach now.
Read this way, Luqman's counsel is not a lecture. It is the only kind of help that crosses over. Money, connections and protection all stop at the edge of the grave. A son who has learned to pray, to be patient and to keep his voice low carries those into the Day himself. They have become his own deeds.
Parents feel the pull of the other kind of help. We pay for things, smooth paths and fix problems, and these are real acts of love. But the ayah asks a sharper question. What have you given your children that they will still have when you cannot stand beside them?
It asks the children too. Your parents cannot carry your account. Their prayers for you are a mercy, but the deeds must be yours. Luqman's son was not saved by having a wise father. He was given the chance to become wise himself.
