Luqman 31:8

إِنَّ ٱلَّذِينَ ءَامَنُوا۟ وَعَمِلُوا۟ ٱلصَّـٰلِحَـٰتِ لَهُمْ جَنَّـٰتُ ٱلنَّعِيمِ

“Indeed, those who believe and do righteous deeds - for them are the Gardens of Pleasure,”

Saheeh International

Essence

Against the man who turned his back stand those who heard and acted: for them are gardens named for bliss, and theirs to keep.

A reflection

A reward He does not need to give

Allah needs nothing from your belief or your good deeds. It is people who are poor towards Him, and He is free of need (35:15). Whoever strives, strives only for his own soul (29:6). So why does the ayah speak of reward at all?

Because the reward is the shape of a mercy, not the wage of a debt. Sahih al-Bukhari and Sahih Muslim report the Prophet ﷺ saying that no one's deeds will admit them to Paradise. 'Not even you?' they asked. 'Not even me,' he said, 'unless Allah covers me with His mercy'. The deeds are real and they matter. But they are the doorway mercy chose, not the price of the house.

That changes how the striving feels. Picture a man who has finally bought the car that was his phone wallpaper at sixteen. For three weeks he parks it where he can see it from the kitchen window. By the fourth week it is just a car. He is not ungrateful. He has simply found that the thing he chased could not carry the weight of what he wanted from it.

The hunger behind that discovery is very modern and very old. People want a good that does not wear off. The ayah names one: jannāt al-naʿīm, gardens defined by bliss. And it ties them to something you can begin today: belief, and deeds that set things right.

In the remembrance of Allah hearts find rest (13:28). That rest is a first taste, given here. Every prayer prayed and every wrong put right is not a payment upwards. It is you, learning the shape of a happiness that will not wear off by the fourth week.
