Fatir 35:40
“Say, "Have you considered[1254] your 'partners' whom you invoke besides Allāh? Show me what they have created from the earth, or have they partnership [with Him] in the heavens? Or have We given them a book so they are [standing] on evidence therefrom? [No], rather, the wrongdoers do not promise each other except delusion."[1255]”

Essence
Every rival to Allah fails three tests, creation, a share in the heavens and a revealed book, and survives only on false promises people trade.
A reflection
The logo wall and the investor's one question
A founder pitches to an investor. His final slide is a logo wall: twenty company badges under the heading 'Our Partners'. The investor leans in and asks what each of these actually built for him. Silence. One sent a newsletter. One offered a discount code. Most simply agreed to be listed. The wall looked impressive only until someone asked the question.
The ayah asks that question of every partner people set beside Allah. Arūnī mādhā khalaqū min al-arḍ: show me what they created of the earth. Not the heavens, just the earth. One commentator spells it out. Did they make its mountains? Its rivers? Its animals? Then the bar drops further. Do they hold even a share in the heavens? Not the whole, a part. Then: did We give them a book? Each step asks for less, and still nothing clears it.
This is majesty shown by contrast. One commentator notes that once the idols' emptiness is laid bare, the next ayah sets Allah's greatness beside it. Each thing is known by its opposite. The point is not that idols happen to be weak. Everything besides Him stands in the same place. Nothing in creation has created.
That includes us. The ego keeps a logo wall of its own. My talent. My contacts. My savings. My good name. We lean on them like partners. But put the investor's question to them. What did my intelligence create of the earth? It rearranged what was given. What did my network make? It passed around what He provided. Pride is a slide full of borrowed logos.
Does Allah need this comparison to feel great? No. The question is put for our sake, so the heart stops calling on partners that cannot answer. The humility it asks for is simply accuracy.
