Ya-Sin 36:53

إِن كَانَتْ إِلَّا صَيْحَةً وَٰحِدَةً فَإِذَا هُمْ جَمِيعٌ لَّدَيْنَا مُحْضَرُونَ

“It will not be but one blast, and at once they are all brought present before Us.”

Saheeh International

Essence

The same single blast that put out one town now gathers every human being who ever lived, without a blink's delay, into His presence.

A reflection

No process, no causes, one blast

Think of the logistics a modern state needs to gather people. A census takes years of planning, millions of forms, armies of enumerators, and still misses thousands. An evacuation of a single city needs months of drills, convoys, police, maps. Even a stadium of sixty thousand takes an hour to fill through its turnstiles.

Now read the ayah. It was only one blast. And at once, all of them, every human being from every age, are brought present before Us.

One commentator draws out what that implies. The sentence shows, he says, how light the raising and the gathering are, and that they need no causes at all. They are gathered for the reckoning without the least delay, not even the blink of an eye.

That is where the ego shrinks. Our power always runs through processes. We need systems, staff, time and luck to move even a few thousand people. The more we organise, the more impressed we are with ourselves. The ayah describes the greatest gathering in existence, and the entire mechanism is a single sound.

The word ladaynā, before Us, carries its own weight. One commentator explains it as in Our presence, in the place of Our judgement, where every outward agency besides Ours has ended. No officials, no clerks, no queues. Only Him.

There is a humbling peace in that, too. The One who can do this does not need anything from us to keep His promise. He does not need our belief in order to raise us, or our organisation in order to gather us. What He asks for is our response. The gathering will happen regardless. The only variable is how we arrive.
