Ar-Rum 30:25
“And of His signs is that the heaven and earth stand [i.e., remain] by His command. Then when He calls you with a [single] call from the earth, immediately you will come forth.”
Saheeh International
Essence
The sky and earth keep standing because He commands it, and the same command will one day call every buried person out at once.
A reflection
Hold a glass at arm's length
Try a small experiment. Fill a glass with water and hold it out at arm's length. For the first ten seconds it feels like nothing. After a minute your shoulder burns. After three, your arm is shaking and the water is trembling. The glass has not grown heavier. Holding is simply work, and the work never stops being work.
Now read the ayah. Among His signs is that the sky and the earth stand by His command. Not 'were set up' once and left. Taqūma: they stand, and keep standing.
The Quran says it plainly elsewhere. 'Allah holds the heavens and the earth lest they cease' (35:41). 'He holds back the sky from falling on the earth, except by His permission' (22:65). One classical commentator pointed out how strange both halves are. The earth is the heaviest thing we know, and it does not sink. The sky is the highest, and it rests on no pillars we can see.
The commentaries record an oath ʿUmar used when he swore in earnest. He would swear by the One by whose command the sky and the earth stand. He reached for the most solid thing he knew to anchor his word.
Set your own achievements beside that. Everything you have built needs holding. A business, a reputation, a family's peace, a body: let go of any of them and they sag. Your arm shakes holding one glass. The ego that feels it is holding up its little world is quietly humbled here. Someone else is holding up the floor it stands on.
Does Allah need us to notice this? No. The sky stands whether or not anyone looks up. The noticing is for us, so that we stop gripping so hard what was never ours to carry.
