“Indeed, he was of Our believing servants.”

Essence
Beneath every reward given to Nuh lies one plain title, the highest a human can hold: one of Allah's believing servants.
A reflection
The highest title: one of Our servants
Innahu min ʿibādinā al-muʾminīn: he was one of Our believing servants. The surah has just praised Nuh lavishly: rescued, his line preserved, peace upon him among the worlds, rewarded as a doer of good. Now it gives the reason beneath the reason.
One classical commentary traces the chain. The reward is explained by his being a doer of good. His being a doer of good is explained by his being a believing servant. The purpose, it says, is to show you the majesty of faith, the furthest reach of praise and honour, and to make you want it.
Another commentary adds a fine point. A messenger is never without sincere servanthood and complete faith, so the description is not news about Nuh. It praises the quality itself.
The root of ʿabd pictures a road worn smooth by many feet, no longer resisting those who walk it. That is the title Allah chose as Nuh's summit. Not 'Our messenger', not 'Our survivor', but 'one of Our servants'. And the possessive is tender: Our servants.
