An-Nisa 4:30
“And whoever does that in aggression and injustice - then We will drive him into a Fire. And that, for Allāh, is [always] easy.”
Saheeh International
Essence
Deliberate aggression against life and wealth meets a Fire, and no wealth, rank or delay puts anyone beyond the reach of Allah.
A reflection
Easy for Allah
The ayah ends with four quiet words: wa-kāna dhālika ʿalā Allāhi yasīrā. And that is easy for Allah.
One classical commentator explains why those words matter. A threat is hard to carry out, he says, only when the one threatened can resist or escape. But whoever is already in the grip of the one who warns cannot resist at all. For Him, carrying out the warning is simple.
Another notes a shift in the grammar. The ayah says 'We shall', and then names Him outright: easy for Allah. The great Name is brought into the open, he says, to instil awe. No barrier stops Him, nothing pushes Him back, and no one intercedes except by His permission.
Think of the people this ayah is addressed to: those who take life or wealth in deliberate aggression. Aggression is usually the ego's confidence that it is out of reach. Enough money for lawyers. Enough rank to make witnesses go quiet. Enough distance, enough time, enough friends. Every tyrant and every fraudster is betting on one thing: that consequences are hard to deliver.
The ayah cancels the bet in a single word. Yasīrā, easy. The lexicons give the root a picture of lightness: a mare with light legs that step easily. What feels to the aggressor like an unbreakable fortress is, for Allah, nothing.
That should shrink every swollen self, including the small ones in us. The ego that takes what is not its own, even a little, assumes it is clever or protected. It is neither. It is simply within reach.
Does Allah need to remind us of His power, as if He needed our fear? He is the Free of need (35:15). The warning is for the would-be aggressor before he acts, and for the victim who wonders if anyone will ever answer for what was done. And the very next ayah opens a door of mercy wide (4:31). The majesty that makes punishment easy also makes forgiveness easy.
